Multiplicity dependence of π, K, and p production in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV
2020
This paper presents the measurements of π±, K±, p and p¯¯¯ transverse momentum (pT) spectra as a function of charged-particle multiplicity density in proton–proton (pp) collisions at s√ = 13 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. Such study allows us to isolate the center-of-mass energy dependence of light-flavour particle production. The measurements reported here cover a pT range from 0.1 to 20 GeV/c and are done in the rapidity interval |y|<0.5. The pT-differential particle ratios exhibit an evolution with multiplicity, similar to that observed in pp collisions at s√ = 7 TeV, which is qualitatively described by some of the hydrodynamical and pQCD-inspired models discussed in this paper.…
Multiplicity dependence of (multi-)strange hadron production in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
2020
The production rates and the transverse momentum distribution of strange hadrons at mid-rapidity (|y|<0.5) are measured in proton-proton collisions at s√ = 13 TeV as a function of the charged particle multiplicity, using the ALICE detector at the LHC. The production rates of K0S, Λ, Ξ, and Ω increase with the multiplicity faster than what is reported for inclusive charged particles. The increase is found to be more pronounced for hadrons with a larger strangeness content. Possible auto-correlations between the charged particles and the strange hadrons are evaluated by measuring the event-activity with charged particle multiplicity estimators covering different pseudorapidity regions. When c…

Evidence of Back Charge Transfer in DMBP-TCNQ3
1985
The single crystal conductivity of (N,N'-dimethyl-4,4'-bipyridinium)2+(7,7,8,8-tetracyanop- quinodimethanide)3 2-, DMBP-TCNQ3, exhibits an anomaly at 170 K which may be attributed to a phase transition and, also, a change in activation energy at 135 K which may be attributed to the onset of extrinsic behaviour. Above 135 K the conductivity varies as σ = σ0 exp(-E2/kT) where σ300K. = 1 S cm-1 and Ea = 0.18 eV. In the high temperature region the thermoelectric e.m.f. saturates to a temperature independent value of S = - 20 μVK-1 whereas for the related monoquaternised salt, [N-phenyl-4-(4'-pyridyl)-pyridinium]+(TCNQ)2 -, ØBP-TCNQ2, S = - 55 μVK-1. The thermoelectric data may be interpreted in…
Monopole production via photon fusion and Drell-Yan processes: MADGRAPH implementation and perturbativity via velocity-dependent coupling and magneti…
2018
In this work we consider point-like monopole production via photon-fusion and Drell-Yan processes in the framework of an effective U(1) gauge field theory obtained from conventional models describing the interaction of spin 0, 1/2, 1 magnetically-charged fields with ordinary photons, upon electric-magnetic dualisation. We present arguments based on such dualities which support the conjecture of an effective monopole-velocity-dependent magnetic charge. For the cases of spin-1/2 and spin-1 monopoles, we also include a magnetic-moment term kappa, which is treated as a new phenomenological parameter and, together with the velocity-dependent coupling, allows for a perturbative treatment of the c…
Angular variation of thermal infrared emissivity for some natural surfaces from experimental measurements
2008
Multiangle algorithms for estimating sea and land surface temperature with Along-Track Scanning Radiometer data require a precise knowledge of the angular variation of surface emissivity in the thermal infrared. Currently, few measurements of this variation exist. Here an experimental investigation of the angular variation of the infrared emissivity in the thermal infrared (8-14-microm) band of some representative samples was made at angles of 0 degrees-65 degrees (at 5 degrees increments) to the surface normal. The results show a decrease of the emissivity with increasing viewing angle, with water showing the highest angular dependence (approximately 7% from 0 degrees to 65 degrees views).…
Measurement of t ¯ t production with a veto on additional central jet activity in pp collisions at √ s = 7 TeV using the ATLAS detector
2012
A measurement of the jet activity in t[bar over t] events produced in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is presented, using 2.05 fb[superscript −1] of integrated luminosity collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The t[bar over t] events are selected in the dilepton decay channel with two identified b-jets from the top quark decays. Events are vetoed if they contain an additional jet with transverse momentum above a threshold in a central rapidity interval. The fraction of events surviving the jet veto is presented as a function of this threshold for four different central rapidity interval definitions. An alternate measurement is also perfor…
